Effective January 1, 2008, the Smoke-free Illinois Act prohibits smoking in virtually all public places and workplaces, including offices, theaters, museums, libraries, educational institutions, schools, commercial establishments, enclosed shopping centers and retail stores, restaurants, bars, private clubs and gaming facilities.

Smoking is also prohibited within 15 feet of all entrances and exits, windows that open and ventilation intakes.  Exceptions to the act are retail tobacco stores, private residences, private vehicles, private/ semi-private rooms in nursing homes or long term care facilities, and in no more than 25% of a hotel/motel’s rooms.

If you are a proprietor/owner/manager, all ashtrays must be removed and signs (no smaller than 5”x7”) must be posted clearly stating smoking is prohibited.

Signs must be displayed at all public and employee entrances.  For a temporary no-smoking sign, please stop by Village Hall or download and print signs from the link below.
