5th Anniversary Banner

Each year since its incorporation in 2001, the Village commemorates its anniversary by planting a tree.  As part of the celebration, Homer Glen also recognizes its citizens who generously donate their time and expertise by volunteering on various committees, commissions, agencies, and task forces throughout the year.   This year the Village announce the winner of its "Name the Newsletter" contest as part of its Fifth Anniversary activities.

Volunteers Recognized

Certificates of appreciation and "Five-Year Anniversary Edition" tee shirts were awarded to over 140 volunteers at the May 30, 2006 Board of Trustees Meeting. Five-year volunteers were also awarded Village pens.  Plaques were awarded to four volunteers who were recognized as "Outstanding Volunteers of the Year".

Mayor Petrizzo said:

"It is difficult to measure the value of volunteer work, but what is strongly evident is the commitment of these four individuals to Homer Glen.   Each has gone beyond the duties expected by committee, task force or commission members.  They have each, of their own accord, taken on extra responsibilities and tasks.  This work has not gone unnoticed and we would like to present them with a special recognition here this evening.  I really just want to say on behalf of the Village of Homer Glen, to each one of you and to all of our volunteers in the village, your hard work and dedication to this process has helped us greatly.  With your continued help and support we will carry on with what we?ve started, making Homer Glen the best community around.  We value your contributions, expertise and opinions greatly and we wish to extend our thanks and congratulations on behalf of the Village of Homer Glen."

"This is our Fifth Anniversary as a Village and our  volunteer list seems to grow every year.  This year we have over 140 volunteers and I just want to say what a great asset this is for the village to have such talented, dedicated individuals who are willing to give so much of their time.  Without a municipal tax and the benefit of a large staff, we rely heavily on our volunteers.  This also adds a very unique quality as this helps us to stay in close contact with the citizens and their needs and desires for the community.  Our volunteers actually have a large part in shaping the direction of our committees and indeed, this village.

Village Newsletter has a Name!

In celebration of the Village's five year anniversary, the Communications and Civic Involvement Committee (CCIC) recently held a ?Name the Village Newsletter? contest and asked the citizens of the community to submit suggestions.  Close to 75 entries were received. CCIC reviewed all the submissions and chose two winners: ?The Village Messenger? and ?A Glimpse of the Glen?.  Each has special meaning.  The name "Messenger" is more than just a name of a newsletter in that it also represents a special place in the Village, Messenger Woods.  It also is part of the name chosen for one of the incorporation efforts.  ?A Glimpse of The Glen? denotes a brief look at current village activities.  The name of the Village Newsletter is:

The Village Messenger
A Glimpse of the Glen"

The Gregg Weiss family won for submitting "The Village Messenger".  Gregg currently serves on the Public Safety Committee.  The winner for the entry ?A Glimpse of the Glen? is Miss Jackie Almazan, who is a freshman at Providence High School.

Each winner received a $100 American Express gift certificate donated by an anonymous party.
